The South African Police Service has deployed its own investigators to France to assist in the probe into the death of South Africa’s ambassador to France and former police minister, Nathi Mthethwa, who died after falling from a 22nd-floor hotel room in Paris earlier this week.

Acting Minister of Police Professor Firoz Cachalia announced the deployment on Friday. The police ministry confirmed the move in a media statement and said the team was sent after consultations with French authorities.

Autopsy results are awaited as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the ambassador’s death.
