New York Attorney General Letitia James was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Virginia. The case follows a referral from federal housing regulator Bill Pulte, who accused James of falsifying records to secure favourable mortgage terms on a Norfolk, Virginia property she listed as her primary residence in 2023.

James has called the allegations: “baseless,” saying she purchased the home with her niece, who lives there full-time. The probe reportedly began in May and also examined whether James misclassified her Brooklyn brownstone to obtain better loan terms. Her office has not yet commented.

James won a civil judgment against the Trump Organization last year for allegedly inflating the value of his real estate empire. President Trump was ordered to pay $355 million in penalties but has appealed the ruling.
