Parts of the US federal government shut down after lawmakers failed to agree on funding measures. The shutdown is the first in six years. A poll by The New York Times has found that 65% of Americans oppose a government shutdown. Ninety-two percent of Republicans oppose a shutdown as opposed to 43% of Democrats.
