Cabinet has announced a sweeping package of actions targeting crime, trade shocks, and infrastructure backlogs following its July and August meetings.

A new Madlanga Judicial Commission will probe corruption in the justice system, while intensified policing under Operation Shanela 2 netted over 17 000 arrests in a week, including 2 911 for serious violent crimes and 550 illegal mining suspects in Barberton.

On trade, with 30% US tariffs hitting South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa has spoken directly to President Donald Trump. Government is rolling out relief measures for affected sectors and pushing to diversify exports, while finalising a 2025–2029 China trade and investment package targeting steel, automotive, pharmaceuticals, rail, and digital industries.

The R6 billion Giyani Water Project is now over 90.0% complete and due for September finish, supplying 55 Limpopo villages. Cabinet also approved joining Afreximbank to boost access to African trade finance and tabled a draft climate target of 320–380 mt CO₂ by 2035.

Key upcoming events include Women’s Day in Tzaneen, the African Union Water Investment Summit in Cape Town, and the launch of Africa’s largest water purification plant in Gauteng.
