The African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed the commencement of the Madlanga Commission, describing it as “further evidence of our nation’s resolve to confront corruption whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head”.

In a statement issued on 17 September, the party said the new inquiry would play a vital role in restoring confidence in governance and strengthening democratic accountability. The ANC stressed that corruption has long undermined public trust, weakened institutions, and diverted scarce resources from service delivery and development.

The party also urged full cooperation with the commission to assist in uncovering wrongdoing. “The ANC calls on the Madlanga Commission to fully exercise its mandate and powers, acting without fear, favour or prejudice,” the statement read. It added that the commission must “leave no stone unturned in exposing wrongdoing and recommending corrective measures”.

The ANC further underlined its position that the fight against corruption is non-negotiable, framing the Madlanga Commission as a landmark step in efforts to rebuild ethical governance.
