The Democratic Alliance (DA) says Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero is "unfit to be mayor" following his appearance before Parliament’s Water and Sanitation Committee, where "he did not present a recovery plan to restore water to residents"[parts of Johannesburg have suffered prolonged water outages despite repeated promises from the city that these would be rectified]. The DA notes that Morero had "publicly promised that water would be restored within 7 days," but no plan was provided and "residents are still without water."

According to the DA, when Morero was asked "why R4 billion was cut from Joburg Water’s budget, Mayor Morero had no answer." The DA says "Joburg Water is now left with an inadequate budget to fix the system, and it is the people of the city who suffer as a result."

The DA further states that "Morero misled the residents of Johannesburg by making promises to restore water and provide a plan, yet the crisis continues and communities remain without water for weeks." The DA concludes that Johannesburg "deserves a mayor who will act decisively to resolve the crisis, not one who makes excuses and fails to deliver."
