The Democratic Alliance (DA) is set to announce its candidate for mayor of Johannesburg on Saturday, as the party gears up for the next local government elections.
In a media release on Thursday, the DA said the urgency for change in the city “has never been greater”.
The announcement will be made at an event addressed by DA federal leader John Steenhuisen, Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga, and Johannesburg chairperson Wendy Alexander.
With Johannesburg facing ongoing service delivery failures, the DA is expected to use the occasion to frame its candidate as the answer to years of instability in the city.
The Common Sense recently reported that speculation is mounting over Helen Zille’s future, with sources suggesting she is the front runner for the post.
