The African National Congress has hailed its latest by-election results as evidence of continued public support for the organisation. Victories recorded on Wednesday, 10 September, in wards across Limpopo, the Free State, Gauteng, and the Eastern Cape were described by ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu as carrying "the unmistakable voice of the people."

In Limpopo, the ANC retained Ward 5 in Bela Bela. In the Free State, Ward 7 in Kgotsong-Bothaville remained under ANC control. In Gauteng, the party secured Ward 130 in Soweto, while in the Eastern Cape, Ward 1 in Kou-Kamma Municipality was also retained.

According to the ANC, "these results are not ordinary but they are proof that the renewal project of the ANC is yielding fruit." The party said the outcomes show that "the people are responding to the stability, unity and discipline that is returning to the organisation, and to the visible commitment of the ANC to serve communities better."

The results precede the Special NEC on Local Government and the Roll Call of Councillors, scheduled to run from 13 to 15 September.
