Data from YouGov shows that Americans do not believe that the shooting of conservative thinker Charlie Kirk was an isolated incident, but rather indicative of a broader societal problem.

When American adults were asked whether they thought the shooting was an isolated event, or whether it revealed a broader problem with American society, 7% of Republicans said they thought it was an isolated event whilst 88% said it revealed a broader problem.

For Democrats, the numbers were 10% and 76%.

The same pollster also asked Americans if they thought protecting the Second Amendment right to own guns is worth some gun deaths.

Here, opinion was deeply split, with 55% of Republicans and 10% of Democrats answering yes.

On whether it was unacceptable to be happy about the death of a public figure, the data was again split. 77% of Republicans said it was always unacceptable to be pleased that a public figure was dead, compared to only 38% of Democrats who thought the same.
