South Africa have named strong squads for next month’s ODI and T20I series in England, with key players returning to boost their chances ahead of a packed international schedule. The six-match tour begins on 2 September at Headingley and serves as crucial preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Middle-order finisher David Miller headlines the T20I recalls. All-rounder Marco Jansen is back after missing the recent Australia tour, while pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada returns to both squads following his recovery from an ankle injury. Their inclusion will reinforce the Proteas’ attack, which already features Lungi Ngidi and a mix of youthful talent.
Temba Bavuma captains the ODI side, which includes young prospects like Dewald Brevis and Kwena Maphaka. The T20I team will be led by Aiden Markram, with Miller’s experience expected to strengthen the batting line-up. Destructive all-rounder Donovan Ferreria also gets a recall to the T20 side.
The tour features three ODIs at Headingley in Leeds, the iconic Lord’s in London, and the Rose Bowl in Southampton, followed by three T20Is at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Manchester’s Old Trafford, and Trent Bridge in Nottingham. With fixtures running through to 14 September, the series offers South Africa a chance to fine-tune combinations and test new talent as they build toward the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Through the lens of preparation, these selections highlight South Africa’s intent to balance experience with youth and address depth across all departments. Returning stars and new faces alike will be under the spotlight as the Proteas gear up for a critical phase in their international campaign.
