Nadine de Klerk produced a stunning all-round performance to guide South Africa to a three-wicket victory over India in Visakhapatnam in their Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 clash.
Chasing 252, the Proteas found themselves under pressure early on before captain Laura Wolvaardt steadied the innings with a composed 70 off 111 balls. Chloe Tryon added a brisk 49, but it was De Klerk who stole the show with an unbeaten 84 off just 54 balls, striking eight fours and five sixes to see her side home in the closing overs.
Earlier, India had set a total of 251, anchored by Richa Ghosh’s impressive 94. Tryon starred with the ball, claiming 3 for 32, while Marizanne Kapp, Nonkululeko Mlaba, and De Klerk each picked up two wickets to keep India within reach.
The result leaves both teams on four points from three matches, keeping the race for semi-final spots wide open. South Africa will next face Bangladesh on 13 October, while India take on table toppers Australia a day earlier in what could be another crucial encounter in the group stage.
