Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach says there is: “a lot of work to do” before South Africa embarks on their five-match tour to Europe and the UK in November, despite the team celebrating a second successive Castle Lager Rugby Championship title.
Reinach, who scored two tries and was named Player of the Match in the Boks’ 29-27 win over Argentina in London last weekend, said the squad’s focus has already shifted to their upcoming fixtures against Japan, France, Italy, Ireland, and Wales.
“Rugby is a strange game. But we know we have a lot of work to do before the year-end tour, and we are all ready and excited to do it. It’s going to be tough, but we’re ready to put in the work,” Reinach said after the team’s return to South Africa on Monday.
Reflecting on the tight win that sealed the title, Reinach praised Argentina’s determination. “They have a lot of fight in them. They are a team that doesn’t stop…and they showed that. There were stages in which we had to chase a few tails and shadows, and luckily, we maintained that. But credit to Argentina, they are a good team.”
He described the Championship triumph as among the best moments of his career but added that he prefers not to dwell on achievements while still playing. “One day I’ll be able to sit down properly and tell you what it means, I suppose,” Reinach said.
Head coach Rassie Erasmus is expected to announce the Springbok squad for the European tour within the next two weeks, with preparations set to begin later in October.
