Bournemouth v Fulham – Prediction: Bournemouth 2–0 Fulham
Bournemouth create plenty at home, averaging roughly 1.9 expected goals per match, and that steady chance generation should tell against a Fulham defence that has leaked ten goals early in the campaign. Bournemouth’s set-piece volume and repeat box entries give them the best routes to break a cautious Fulham side, and a tidy home performance should see them finish with a clean sheet.
Leeds v Tottenham – Prediction: Leeds 1–3 Tottenham
Leeds concede more than 13 shots per game, a figure that exposes them to punishment if opponents turn chance quality into goals. Tottenham create about 2.3 big chances per match and have the finishing variety to exploit Leeds’s gaps. Expect high tempo from Spurs, with Leeds’s work rate keeping the scoreline respectable.
Arsenal v West Ham – Prediction: Arsenal 3–1 West Ham
Arsenal will be buzzing after last week’s late comeback and Champions League win. West Ham should also come in feeling less sorry for themselves after Jarrod Bowen’s equaliser vs Everton got them a crucial point. West Ham have conceded 11 times so far, and West Ham manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, will be desperately hoping to stop the Hammers from leaking goals. Arsenal should have too much quality for West Ham to handle.
Manchester United v Sunderland – Prediction: Manchester United 1–1 Sunderland
United remain exposed to counter-attacks as well as set pieces. Sunderland will likely look to sit back and break with United desperate for a statement performance and a comprehensive win. There are also questions over the Old Trafford dugout adding noise to selection.
Aston Villa v Burnley – Prediction: Aston Villa 2–0 Burnley
Villa have been solid at home, winning three of their last four at Villa Park with an 8–2 aggregate, and are looking closer to the Villa we all knew from last season. Burnley likely lack the firepower to overturn an early Villa lead.
Everton v Crystal Palace – Prediction: Everton 1–1 Crystal Palace
Jack Grealish’s arrival has really helped Everton create chances, but their conversion rate is down in the bottom three of the division, resultingly Everton only have two wins. Palace are still unbeaten and should be favourites to continue their good run but Thursday night football and Everton’s decent form will make it very hard for Palace to come away with three points.
Newcastle v Nottingham Forest – Prediction: Newcastle 2–1 Nottingham Forest
Newcastle average near 17 shots per match and press opponents into errors, giving them the edge at St James’ Park. Forest players and manager are coming into this game feeling the pressure, with one Premier League win and Forest fans booing manager Ange Postecoglou after their European defeat to a Danish club, Midtjylland.
Wolves v Brighton – Prediction: Wolves 1–2 Brighton
Wolves remain blunt in attack, averaging under one goal per game, and so rely heavily on set pieces. Brighton have been good against the bigger clubs and have struggled when they are not the underdogs. So, we expect them to battle against Wolves but still end up having just enough to beat them
Brentford v Manchester City – Prediction: Brentford 1–4 Manchester City
Brentford are dangerous from the air, with five headed goals this season, but City control territory, averaging about 65% possession. If City move quickly and find the right channels, Brentford’s defensive shape will be stretched and the game could open into a heavy scoreline for the visitors.
Chelsea v Liverpool – Prediction: Chelsea 1–2 Liverpool – Game of the Week
Chelsea have won three of their last 19 meetings with Liverpool, including four cup finals, so recent history favours the Reds. Chelsea have failed to keep a league clean sheet in five, while Liverpool have been lethal late, scoring six goals after the 80th minute. Liverpool’s perfect start has recently ended, but their habit of finishing matches strongly remains, and Chelsea will be desperate to change fortunes after the Brighton loss. Expect a tight first hour and late Liverpool control, with fine margins deciding the result.
