Unleash Creativity This Summer at Zeitz MOCAA’s BMW Centre for Art Education

This summer, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in Cape Town is inviting children and families to explore the world of art in a hands-on, immersive way. The BMW Centre for Art Education is hosting its 2025 Children’s Summer Holiday Programme, offering workshops and activities designed to engage children of all ages and skill levels.

Between Christmas and New Year, it presents the Summer Storytime with The Stories That Ran Away on 27, 29–30 December 2025, and 3 January 2026. The storytelling sessions in the Atrium Bowl (10am to 12pm) bring to life magical characters such as Khvum, the Crocodile Woman, Mouse, and Father Sun. Children then transition into open studio sessions (1pm to 5pm) in Classroom 1 (Level -1), creating 2D and 3D artworks inspired by the stories. This festive programme encourages imagination, creativity, and hands-on learning, making the holiday season truly special for young participants.

To kick off 2026, the Open Studio: Free to Create programme runs from 5–9 January, inviting families to explore a wide range of materials and techniques. Guided by friendly studio assistants, children and adults alike can draw inspiration from Zeitz MOCAA’s exhibitions while making their own creations.

Workshop fees are structured to make participation accessible: R150 per child for non-members and R100 per child for Zeitz MOCAA members and Mini Passport holders. Adult admission applies if parents wish to visit the museum during workshops. Booking through Webtickets is essential as spaces are limited. Fees collected support children from under-resourced communities, ensuring broader access to holiday and community art programmes.
