Cape Town’s Kloof Street has been named one of the world’s coolest streets in a new international ranking that celebrates neighbourhoods where food, culture, and community life are all thriving.

This is according to global travel brand Time Out.

Running from the edge of the Cape Town central business district toward Tamboerskloof and framed by Table Mountain, the street is praised for blending old Victorian facades and broekie-lace balconies with a dense run of restaurants, bars, design studios, and vintage shops. Time Out describes it as Long Street’s more refined sibling, a place where heritage charm meets Cape Town’s creative energy without losing a hint of mischief after dark.

The global list covers 31 streets across the world, selected by locals, then ranked on food, drink, fun, and community spirit. Rua do Senado in Rio de Janeiro takes the top spot while other heavy hitters include Orange Street in Osaka, Rua do Bonjardim in Porto, Fanghua Street in Chengdu, and Orchard Street in New York, each offering a snapshot of their city in miniature.

On Kloof Street Time Out highlights the theatrical Kloof Street House, Japanese-inspired Kloof Konbini, Mediterranean-style Blondie, and Southern Indian favourite Vadivelu along with local design hub AKJP Studio and hands-on spaces such as Baikt Ceramics. Together they turn one Cape Town strip into a showcase of what the city does best: good food, elegant architecture, and an easy-going social scene.
