SA Split on Race of President

Social Research Foundation polling shows that voters remain divided on whether South Africa’s governing party must have a black leader to succeed. Respondents were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with the statement, “Whichever party governs South Africa, it must have a black leader to be a success.” Among registered voters, 54% agreed somewhat or strongly, while 43% disagreed somewhat or strongly. The result captures a country still split over the political weight of race in leadership. South Africans are not speaking with one voice on the question.
