Three years after October 7 2023, Doron Libshtein tells Gabriel Makin what that day took from his family. His brother Ofir, head of the Sha’ar HaNegev regional council next to Gaza, was killed outside his home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza after running for the armoury; Ofir’s son Nitzan, his mother-in-law, and a nephew were killed the same day. Doron, a former Microsoft marketing executive who now lectures on leadership, describes the hours of unanswered messages, the weeks of waiting to bury his family, and the work he has done since to help people in the Gaza border communities and the north of Israel move from trauma to growth. He also speaks about the hostages, the hate Israelis have faced since the attack, the warm reception he has found in South Africa, and where Israel stands today.
