-1h 42mIn the latest episode of Talking Sense the panel discusses the UCT Council considering whether to remove advocate Mark Oppenheimer over a podcast he recorded with Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Mark is a guest on the show and explains his experiences as a member of the UCT Council, the hundreds of millions withdrawn over the university’s Israel position, and the horrific antisemitism that plagues UCT's campus.
Frans Cronje discusses the medium-term budget, which showed debt being revised down to 78.4% of GDP and the deficit to 3.9%. But spending rises to 33.4% of GDP and revenue to 29.5%. Frans says, “It looks good. It’s very bad.”
Simon Lincoln Reader then explains the riots in France and Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s part in them. Richard Tren is angry about Trump allowing Russian diesel imports, and explains why median household incomes in America are rising while real wages are flat. Mark also talks about Supra Mahumapelo’s threat to strip his citizenship and what might happen next. The episode closes with Frans discussing a new polling finding from the Social Research Foundation and The Common Sense: large majorities of South Africans back AfriForum and March and March working together.
