Pretoria businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala appeared before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee at Kgosi Mampuru II prison, where he is a remand detainee, to testify on allegations of police corruption and political interference. The committee moved proceedings to the prison to hear his evidence under tight security.

Matlala is expected to outline his links to senior police officials and politicians, as well as the cancelled R360 million SAPS health services tender awarded to his company. MPs say his testimony could be crucial to understanding the scale of alleged interference inside policing structures.
