Police in the Northern Cape have arrested a 39-year-old foreign national after seizing dagga valued at about R12.3 million during an early morning operation on Thursday. Officers acted on information about a vehicle transporting drugs towards the Eastern Cape and intercepted an Isuzu bakkie near a fuel station on the N1 outside Colesberg at about 05:00.

Several bags of dagga were found in the back of the vehicle and the suspect was arrested on a charge of illegal dealing in drugs. Police leadership praised the swift response and said operations on national routes will be intensified over the festive season to curb trafficking.
