Eleven people, including a schoolchild, died when a minibus taxi and a truck collided on the R102 near Lotus Park in Isipingo, south of Durban, on Thursday morning.

KwaZulu-Natal transport officials say preliminary checks found the taxi was overloaded, the taxi driver’s professional permit expired in 2023, and the truck had worn tyres and was operating illegally. Investigations and potential charges are under way.
