An Eastern Cape government official has died in a head on collision on the N2 near Nciba. The official was travelling in a provincial vehicle from East London toward Butterworth when it collided with a Toyota double cab on Sunday afternoon, leaving several other people injured.

Emergency crews operated a stop-and-go system while clearing the scene, and police have opened cases of culpable homicide and reckless or negligent driving. The official’s name has not yet been released as the province prepares to brief the family.
