Floods Force Rethink of How Kruger is Rebuilt After R500m Destruction

Severe floods have caused more than R500 million in damage to Kruger National Park, washing away roads and bridges and disrupting tourism. Environment Minister Willie Aucamp said SANParks is now reassessing how to rebuild infrastructure to better withstand future extreme weather.

Aucamp said no lives were lost after evacuations, but warned repairs could take years, with some work taking up to five years. A dedicated SANParks Kruger Recovery Fund has been established to help finance restoration and resilience upgrades.
