The Free State ANC has rejected claims by secretary general Fikile Mbalula that the province has only two branches in good standing. Provincial leaders say the figure is misleading.

They argue that problems with membership systems and administration have skewed the numbers. The dispute comes amid growing concern inside the ANC over branch functionality ahead of internal processes.
