Pras Michel, a Grammy-winning member of the Fugees, an American hip-hop group from the 1990s, has been sentenced to 14 years in a US federal prison after being convicted on ten counts including conspiracy, illicit foreign campaign donations, and acting as an unregistered foreign agent. Prosecutors said he helped channel funds from Malaysian financier Jho Low into American politics.
Michel was also accused of attempting to influence the Trump administration to halt a Justice Department probe into Low. The court ordered him to forfeit nearly $65 million and imposed three years of supervised release. His legal team plans to appeal, arguing his earlier defence was mishandled.
