Gramma, a Galápagos tortoise believed to be around 141 years old, has died at the San Diego Zoo after age-related health decline. She was euthanised following a rapid deterioration linked to bone complications common in extremely old tortoises.

She had lived through more than 20 US presidencies and became one of the zoo’s most recognisable animals after nearly a century in its care. Conservationists say her life remains a symbol of global efforts to protect endangered tortoise species.
