Israeli Defence Forces chief Eyal Zamir has dismissed several top officers and reprimanded others for failures that allowed the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023. Those removed include former leaders of the Intelligence Directorate, Operations Directorate, Southern Command and Unit 8200, alongside key Gaza Division commanders.

Zamir said the measures reflect personal accountability after an external review found the army’s internal investigations inadequate. The move has sparked political tension as critics argue the military is being held to account faster than senior government officials.
