More arrests are expected in the Russia Ukraine recruitment case after five suspects appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on charges linked to allegedly sending South Africans to fight in the conflict. The group includes radio presenter Nonkululeko Mantula, accused of helping co-ordinate travel for recruits promised high-paying security work.

The Hawks say specialised units are tracing additional suspects believed to form part of a wider network. The accused face charges under the Regulation of Foreign Military Assistance Act, and the state is opposing bail while investigators work with international partners to track South Africans already taken to the war zone.
