Russian investigators say a car bomb in southern Moscow killed Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov on Monday after an explosive device detonated under his vehicle. Sarvarov led the Operational Training Directorate within Russia’s General Staff.

The Investigative Committee opened a murder inquiry and said it is reviewing CCTV and questioning witnesses, including a possible link to Ukrainian special services. Ukraine has not commented.
