The trial over the killing of Durban navy veteran Ken Price has taken a new turn after the sole remaining accused, Julio Nobrega, told the KwaZulu Natal High Court today that he can no longer afford a lawyer and will represent himself. Price, who was 74, disappeared in December 2021 and was later found murdered near Richards Bay.

Nobrega is alleged to have ordered his employees to bludgeon Price with a hammer after reportedly believing the pensioner had alerted authorities to his backyard panel-beating business. His former co-accused has since died, leaving Nobrega to face the charges alone as proceedings continue in the Durban High Court.
