The DA says Nelson Mandela Bay’s SAPS Flying Squad has effectively collapsed, leaving one operational vehicle to cover more than a million residents. An oversight visit reported long response times, safety risks for officers, and deteriorating infrastructure.

The party adds that the Anti-Gang Unit and K9 Unit are crippled by shortages of vehicles, trained dogs, radios, and body armour. It plans to press the Acting Police Minister for urgent intervention, citing Parliament’s earlier resolution to repair Anti-Gang and Crime Intelligence capacity in the metro.
