Police in Bapong, North West, have arrested one suspected zama zama during an operation around abandoned mining sites. A 51-year-old man was allegedly found operating an excavator, which was seized along with a truck.

Authorities said the operation follows reports that more suspects may be underground. Police have increased deployments in the area and said efforts to secure hazardous shafts and trace additional suspects are continuing.
