Rare Giant Oarfish Washes Up On Tasmania Beach

A rare three-metre giant oarfish has washed ashore at Preservation Bay near Penguin in northwest Tasmania, Australia, startling a local walker who found the long silver, ribbon shaped creature early this morning. Marine biologist Prof Culum Brown confirmed the identification, noting the species usually lives hundreds of metres deep and only surfaces when sick or dying.
