Durban businessman Stuart James Scharnick has opened defamation and crimen injuria cases at Pretoria Central against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo after commission testimony linked him to past crimes and to suspended SAPS deputy commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.

Khumalo told the commission Scharnick had 34 cases with 18 convictions including vehicle crime and assault. Scharnick disputes this, says none involved hijacking, and maintains he has no pending charges. He plans to testify to clear his name.
