South Africa clinched the first Test by 30 runs. South Africa scored 159 in the first innings and 153 in the second. India made 189 in their first innings and required just 124 to win in their second innings. India were bowled out for just 93 in the chase, collapsing under sustained pressure from the Proteas attack. The match shifted decisively when South Africa claimed a cluster of wickets on the final afternoon, closing off any chance of an Indian recovery.

Temba Bavuma’s unbeaten 55 in the second innings proved pivotal on a surface where runs were hard to come by. Simon Harmer delivered the match-winning spell with eight wickets across both innings, earning Player of the Match. The victory gives South Africa a valuable 1–0 lead and a strong foothold in the two-match series.
