South Africa claimed a composed 32 to 14 win over Italy in Turin despite losing Franco Mostert to a controversial red card inside the opening twelve minutes. The lock was sent off for a high tackle on Paolo Garbisi, leaving the Springboks a man down for nearly the entire match yet still controlling territory and tempo.

Tries from Marco van Staden, Morne van den Berg, Grant Williams and Ethan Hooker ensured the visitors pulled away after halftime. Italy struggled to convert long spells of possession, while South Africa’s defence held firm. Coach Rassie Erasmus said he was sad for players dealing with consecutive red card disruptions.
