South Africa’s planned Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act demerit system will introduce stricter consequences for repeat traffic offenders, including licence suspensions at 15 points and full cancellations after three suspensions. Drivers who lose their licences will be required to complete compulsory rehabilitation that includes simulator training and psychological assessment. The first phase is expected in July 2026, with demerit points activated only in a later phase.
