The UK has launched Atlantic Bastion, a new undersea defence programme that uses AI-guided drones, unmanned vessels, submarines, and aircraft to protect seabed cables and pipelines from Russian interference. Officials say the system will strengthen surveillance across the North Atlantic.

Defence secretary John Healey says the technology will help track and deter hostile Russian activity around critical infrastructure. The government has committed £14 million in initial funding, with dozens of firms competing to supply advanced sensors and autonomous systems.
