The Western Cape government has warned of a double disaster as lower rainfall collides with an intense fire season, saying the province is seeking two disaster declarations to address water security pressures and escalating wildfires.

Premier Alan Winde’s office said hot, dry, and windy conditions have fuelled months of fires, with the season expected to run into May 2026 as strain mounts on municipal resources.
