Tokyo’s Japan Mobility Show, which has replaced the traditional Tokyo Motor Show, is now the stage where carmakers reveal what driving might look like in the years ahead.
This year, Honda stole the spotlight with the debut of its new 0 α, a compact electric SUV designed for everyday use and built around the idea that electric cars should be lighter, simpler, and more enjoyable to drive.
Honda describes the 0 α as part of its new “0 Series,” a range of electric vehicles (EVs) set to launch in 2027. The company wants to move away from heavy, overly complicated EVs and focus on cars that feel agile and easy to live with. The 0 α’s design reflects that aim, with clean lines, a low stance, and a roomy cabin that feels bright and uncluttered. Its upright rear end makes it practical for shopping trips or family weekends away, while the interior focuses on comfort and clear visibility rather than gimmicks.
While Honda has not confirmed full details yet, the 0 α is expected to offer enough battery range for several days of city driving between charges, with power that makes it lively but not intimidating. The idea is to make electric driving simple, a car you plug in at night and drive without thinking about fuel costs or emissions.
Honda plans to build the 0 α in Japan and India.
What sets the 0 α apart is its purpose. It is not a luxury showcase or a high-performance toy. It is meant to be the kind of electric car most people could use every day, compact enough for tight city streets, comfortable enough for family life, and clean enough to fit the future.
