The Blitzboks have been thrown into one of the toughest groups of the Cape Town Sevens as the pool draw sets up a high-stakes opening day at the DHL Stadium this weekend. On Saturday South Africa will face Fiji, New Zealand (who won the Dubai sevens tournament), and Great Britain in the final match of the day, a schedule that immediately raises the intensity of their title defence.

A total of 24 fixtures will be played on Saturday, with the top two teams in each pool progressing to the semifinals on Sunday.

SA Rugby chief executive Rian Oberholzer said the competition format leaves no space for error and called on supporters to fill the DHL Stadium. He added that the Blitzboks had recovered well in Dubai (finishing fifth) but would need to rise again to protect their Cape Town crown. Organisers say the event marks the unofficial start of summer, with a mix of live entertainment, food, and merchandise alongside the rugby.
