The full competition schedule has been released for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games, due to be held in Los Angeles. It sets out when every medal will be contested across 51 sports and 49 venues in the Los Angeles region and Oklahoma City.

While most events will be held in and around Los Angeles, the softball and canoe slalom events will be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The official opening ceremony for the Games will be held on 14 July 2028 with the Games ending on 30 July.

The first medals of the Games will be awarded in the women’s triathlon at Venice Beach, while the final champions will be crowned in swimming on the last day, with the marathon held over the closing weekend.

Organisers say the event will be the most gender-balanced Olympics in history, with women allocated 50.5% of the total athlete quota across all sports.

The first day of the Games will feature the highest number of women’s finals ever staged in a single day, including events in athletics, judo, fencing, canoe slalom, rugby sevens, and shooting.

Day 15 is billed as a Super Saturday that will include 26 finals sessions across 23 sports, spanning both team and individual events.

Baseball, softball, cricket, and lacrosse also return to the programme, while flag football and squash both make their Olympic debut.

Los Angeles will host its first Paralympic Games and its third Olympics, all without needing to build any new permanent venues, using existing stadiums and temporary infrastructure instead. It becomes the third city to host the Games three times, after London and Paris.
