Is The Common Sense Too Soft on the ANC? Frans Cronje Answers the Critics

Frans Cronje's talks to Gabriel Makin about The Common Sense's view of the ANC.

13 min

The Common Sense gets accused of being pro-ANC. Frans Cronje sets out to Gabriel Makin exactly what the publication’s position is: the ANC did better in its first era than it is given credit for (employment doubled, the murder rate halved, homes without electricity fell from 50% to under 20%); but the second era has been very bad. But Frans says be very careful about “wrecking” the ANC and freezing millions of its supporters out of government: leave its internal processes alone; and don't die on the hill of corruption, because it is policy hostile to investment, not corruption, that stops the economy growing. Frans concludes by saying if none of that happens, the enclave future looms.
