British Airways has withdrawn its sponsorship of Louis Theroux’s podcast after an episode featuring Bob Vylan frontman Pascal Robinson-Foster reignited outrage over antisemitic chants at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Robinson-Foster, who led crowds in chanting: “death to the IDF” during Bob Vylan’s Glastonbury performance in June, told Theroux he would: “do it again tomorrow, twice on Sundays.”
The British Broadcasting Corporation, which had televised Bob Vylan's performance, later ruled the broadcast of that performance could: “fairly be characterised as antisemitic,” and police opened an investigation following complaints.
During the podcast, Robinson-Foster questioned figures from the Community Security Trust showing a spike in antisemitic incidents after the performance, insisting he had not made Britain’s Jewish community unsafe. Theroux himself drew criticism for describing Israel as modelling: “an aggressive form of ethno-nationalism.”
In a statement British Airways confirmed it had pulled its advertising, saying the episode: “clearly breaches our sponsorship policy in relation to politically sensitive or controversial subject matters.” The airline said it was investigating how the episode had been approved and would review safeguards with its media agency.
