Frans Cronje: The ANC Can Win 50% Again Under Motsepe
Frans Cronje
-39 minIn the second part of The Common Sense Special Report, Frans Cronje and Gabriel Makin turn from the parties to the people who lead them. Cyril Ramaphosa’s favourability has halved, 46% of voters say their lives will improve once he goes, and Patrice Motsepe is the only leader in the survey with a net positive rating.
Frans sets out why the ANC can return to above 50% by the early 2030s under Motsepe if growth returns to 3%, and why that would help strengthen South Africa’s chances of remaining a union. The data then show a country taking matters into its own hands: more than 80% of those polled say their communities now do the work government has failed to do, and private citizens and local businesses are now trusted more than the state to deliver services.
The report closes on AfriForum and March and March, secession sentiment in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, the case for oil and gas exploration, and why South Africans take a practical view of empowerment policy when it comes to building a school.
