Cape Town Officers Arrested for Alleged Extortion and Bribery

Two City of Cape Town law enforcement officers from the Metal Theft Unit have been arrested on charges of extortion and bribery after allegedly targeting foreign-owned spaza shops in recent raids.

The Hawks and the City’s internal investigators linked the pair to repeated shakedowns, including demands for cash and stolen goods. The officers will appear in the Cape Town Regional Court as the City pursues disciplinary steps.
