Four Durban Beaches Closed After Pollution Detected

eThekwini Municipality has closed four Durban beaches after tests detected pollution in seawater, prompting a public warning to avoid swimming until further notice. The affected beaches include Blue Lagoon, eThekwini Beach, Country Club Beach, and Battery Beach.

The closures follow a High Court ruling ordering the municipality to take urgent steps to curb sewage spillages and protect rivers and beaches. Further sampling is under way as officials investigate the source of contamination.
