Russia unleashed one of its most intense overnight barrages of the war today, striking cities across Ukraine and killing about 20 people. The western city of Ternopil suffered the heaviest damage, with apartment blocks, homes and parts of the energy grid hit as more than 100 people were injured in the wave of missile and drone attacks.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched hundreds of drones and 48 missiles of varying types, many aimed at regions far from the frontlines. Air defences intercepted most of them, but several reached residential areas, causing fires and power outages. The strikes came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy travelled to Turkey for diplomatic talks.
