The South African Weather Service has warned of dangerous weather on Monday 12 January 2026, with an Orange Level 9 alert for disruptive rain in parts of the north-eastern interior and a risk of flooding in low-lying areas.

Severe thunderstorms are also expected in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, with heavy downpours, damaging winds, lightning, and hail possible. An additional heat advisory covers areas of the Western Cape and Northern Cape, with extremely hot conditions expected in some towns.
