A man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly holding a woman and a young child hostage for several hours in Wentworth, south of Durban. Police hostage negotiators and specialised units were deployed to the scene.

Paramedics said no physical injuries were reported after the hostages were released safely. Police said the suspect is in custody as investigations continue into what led to the incident.
